What's in a name?



Well, we formally named our school to be 孟子中文学校 in 2009. Literally, 孟子中文学校 means Meng Zi Chinese Academy.

However, a good English translation has not been as straightforward. When 孟子 (Meng Zi) was translated into English, a more western sounding word "Mencius" was invented, which followed the same pattern as the word "Confucius". We thought that was a smart way to name our school with "Mencius". We have learned in the past few years, the pronunciation of Mencius has been a point of confusion for many.

With the grand opening of the Scottsdale campus, we have decided to adopt a straight translation of 孟子中文学校 to Meng Chinese Academy. Incidentally, as the owner of school, Mrs. Meng was not too reluctant to accept the new name change! J
